Owen currently studies MMus in Composition and Conducting at the Royal College of Music in London, honoured with the title Hong Kong Scholar by the Government of Hong Kong. Previously, he obtained his BA in Music with First Class Honours from the University of Hong Kong and received numerous prizes and scholarships in recognition of his academic excellence. Prior to his university studies, he completed IB with the score of 43/45, with a 7 in Music (HL) and full marks in Extended Essay (Music).

As an emerging composer, his music has been listed in CoMA library (Contemporary Music for All) and performed in England, Romania, and Hong Kong. He was a finalist in composition competitions such as “International Orange Chorale of San Francisco - Choral Composition Competition” and “Hendrix College (USA) Candlelight Carol Competition.” His works have also been workshopped in composition and performance master classes held by Ensemble Offspring, Jane Chapman, Julien Feltrin, Jonathan Cole, Haris Kittos, Dördüncü Piano Duo, Roberto Abbondanza, etc. In addition to writing contemporary classical music, he is also keen on film scoring. He current studies composition with Kenneth Hesketh, Jonathan Cole, and film music with Michael Ladouceur.

Besides composing, Owen currently conducts the Goodensemble (London), a young semi-professional orchestra with most members from the London conservatoires. Previously, he has also served as an assistant conductor at the Hong Kong Southern District Orchestra as well as a guest conductor of the Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Hope Through Music Children’s Choir. Additionally, he also participated in conducting workshops led by Mark Heron (Royal Northern College of Music) and was a private student of the award-winning conductor Prof. Lü Xiaoyi (Nanjing University). He currently studies conducting with Howard Williams.

Before specialising in composition and conducting, Owen began his musical journey as a performer. He learnt the piano under the tutelage of Dr Amy Sze (Eastman School of Music) and Shirley Yip (Hong Kong Philharmonic) and studied vocal performance under Mr Jimmy Chan (Opera Hong Kong). As a chorister, Owen was a member of Vox Major (University of Manchester), the University of Hong Kong Chamber Singers, and the Senior Mixed Voice Choir (St. Paul’s Co-educational College).

Lastly, Owen has been a private music tutor since 2014, tutoring different subjects from piano performance and theory, to music history and composition. As an administrator, Owen was the chairperson of the Music Society at the University of Hong Kong, an assistant manager of the Hong Kong Hope Through Music Children’s Charity Ltd (charity providing free music education to the underprivileged), and has been involved in numerous concert productions.
