Biography

Laura Reid was born in Sheffield 1977, and grew up in Wellingborough, Northants. Studying Music at Newcastle University, graduating in 1999 she then studied Indian Classical Music, gaining distinction in Indian Classical Music Performance on Cello (Trinity College) and then completed an MA in Composition with Rhian Samuel (City University, 2006). Laura’s compositions have been performed by Ensemble Eleven at RNCM, in the USA and by members of London Sinfonietta at LSO St.Lukes.

Laura’s eclectic career has encompassed many styles of music, collaborating with: singer songwriter Kathryn Williams, AV artists the Light Surgeons, The Matinee Orchestra (Arable Records), Thea Gilmore, Maximo Park (Warp Records), Fourhands, and performing Cello on Later with Jools Holland, and Folk Brittania (BBC4).

Teaching has also been a focus and Laura was Education manager at EFDSS, and prior to this Lead Tutor for In Harmony Lambeth, and Lambeth and Ealing music services.
