Joanna Borrett

Biography

Joanna Borrett is a composer and cellist. She has had several books of music published and some of her pieces are included in the ABRSM and Trinity College exam syllabuses.

Joanna’s first string orchestra work – Clan – was recorded by Her Ensemble. On its release last year it was chosen as Album of the Weekend by Scala Radio and Video of the Day by Gramophone and the third movement has also been played on Radio 3's programmes Earlier and Classical Unwind. Two movements of Clan were recently played at the royal investitures at Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh and Edinburgh University's String Orchestra are performing Clan in November.

Joanna’s music combines elements of both classical and folk. She is published by U.M.P. and is a house composer at Kevin Mayhew. The recording of her song cycle Moments of Freedom  is being released on September 29th and Her Ensemble are recording more of her string orchestra music in October.
