Ian Gardiner

Biography

Ian Gardiner is a British composer, orchestrator and arranger who works in a variety of media, including contemporary concert pieces, media music and scores for silent films. His composition accolades include the Prix Italia, Sony Award and the British Composer Award. Ian’s music has been played by ensembles including the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, to whom he has close ties. He is also an experienced percussionist having played in the new music group George W Welch. Ian previously taught at the University of Liverpool and is currently a lecturer at Goldsmiths University of London, where he was Head of the Music Department from 2015-2018. He has also acted as a composition mentor for Sound and Music and served as an external examiner for a number of universities.
