Biography

David Sutton-Anderson studied composition with John Lambert at RCM (1973-77) and with Mauricio Kagel at the Cologne Musikhochschule (1977-80). Awards include the Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize, the Composition Prize of the City of Mons (Belguim), the Bernard Shore Memorial Prize (Royal Over-Seas League) and the Gemini Fellowship. His music is performed and broadcast internationally and has been recorded for Meridian, Black Box, Classicprint and Oboe Classics labels. David has twice been appointed PRS Composer-in-Education and he works extensively for Birmingham Royal Ballet Education Department. He is currently on the professorial staff of the University of Notre Dame, London programme. As a conductor, he specialises in contemporary music, has been resident conductor of Sounds Positive since 1987 and made his Royal Festival Hall debut in 2000. David has been a member of the music staff of the Royal Opera, Covent Garden since 1993. He joined the RCM Junior Department staff in 1997.
