Biography
Dave Smith (1949-) studied at Magdalene College, Cambridge. In the 1970s he was a member of Cornelius Cardew's Scratch Orchestra. Up until 1977, he wrote in a similar minimalist style to the music played with the Scratch Orchestra. He later developed his style incorporating the styles of many other composers, noteably taking influence from Cardew's later works. In addition to composing, Dave Smith worked in arranging, most noteably arranging Holst's The Planets for solo piano. He currently lectures at the University of Hertfordshire.
