Biography
Charles Nelson (Born in 2001.) is currently a student at the University of Salford studying for a degree in Creative Music Technology. His speciality is composing classical pieces, and singing, with a focus on Hollywood and jazz. He can often be heard singing in jazz venues mainly in Manchester.
Prior to his degree, he studied Media, winning an award for his skills. He has experience with organising and presenting public events in which silent movies were accompanied by a live orchestra/live piano accompaniment. He has served as a member of Storyhouse Young Programmers Group which involved organising movie events in the cinema in his hometown of Chester. Following this, he was invited to present two historic silent movies to the public, The Kid (1921) and South (1919).
Charles is a confident public speaker and has a vast knowledge about music for the moving image and music history, particularly classical music, and the Great American Songbook. His strengths combine music and media, and this is showcased in his two online blogs, ‘On Silent Screen’ and ‘Film Score Junkie’. His musical influences are Rogers and Hammerstein, Aaron Copland, Jerry Goldsmith, and Malcolm Arnold.
