Dawn Walters

Biography

Composer and Alto Dawn Walters has been writing down her compositions since the age of thirteen. Her first pieces were for piano, and she soon moved on to writing for voice and piano, and for choir.  Many of her compositions are settings of Shakespeare songs and sonnets and sacred choral music, which have been performed in person and online, including by The Swan Consort and Echo Vocal Ensemble. Some of Dawn’s Shakespeare settings reached the finals of the UK Songwriting Contest, while others were Commended and Highly Commended. Two of her choral cadence entries were chosen for performance in the #12Days Christmas Cadence Competition, and in May 2022, two Shakespeare settings were included in the International Composers’ Festival. 

Dawn’s choral music has been performed across the UK, in Europe and the USA. She has written two Mass settings, a Christmas carol, and chants for Bradford Cathedral’s celebration of International Women’s Day amongst other works. Her choral piece ‘Pro Dolorosa Eius Passione’ was written for Anita Datta and The Swan Consort and is published by Banks Music. It also featured on the ‘Choral Chihuahua’ Podcast. Her duet, ‘Come Away Death’ was broadcast on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ programme.
