Matthew Sear

Biography

Matthew Sear is a London born musician noted for compositions and performances that draw from a variety of styles.

A recent recipient of a Fellowship, from the Royal Society of Arts, Matthew recently joined the BBC’s Anna Cookson on her show The Wake Up Call, to discuss his latest album ‘Creations in Lockdown’

Matthew gave his debut at St Paul's Church, Covent Garden (2006), and has since performed as a guitarist/composer at venues that have included; St John Smith’s Square, St James’ Piccadilly, Hertford College (University of Oxford) and St Martin In The Field's 'Series For Young Composers’.

In addition to giving performances of his own compositions, Matthew’s music has been performed and broadcast at home and abroad receiving premier performances at: the Royal Academy of Music, the 1901 Arts Club, St Martin in the Field, Maria Marchant’s ‘7 Notes in 7 Days’, and the Edinburgh, Toronto and Adelaide fringe festivals.

He has additionally featured in magazines that have included; Classical Guitar, Fanfare (USA), The Jewish Chronicle, Guitar Tutor, Gibson Lifestyle and We Are Cult.

With over eighty works written and seven albums recorded to date, Matthew publishes his scores and recordings through his own label ‘Clockwork Classics’, which are available on SMP (Sheet Music Plus), and the streaming platforms Spotify and Apple Music.

He is currently working with the award winning artist Mina Kupfermann on an music and animation collaboration ‘Seven Days’, the duo’s interpretation of the creation story

Interests outside of composition include; Judaism, premiere league football, film, psychology and the search for extra terrestrial intelligence. Matthew lives with his wife Suzanne, and their King Charles Spaniel Ellie.
