slow-motion-a-game-of-pulse-and-time

Additional Information

for chamber orchestra

Slow Motion is a single-movement work for chamber orchestra that treats its material like a rewindable tape. The dance-like pulse of the music is interrrupted again and again by distortions in time that slow down the music for a moment and allow the listeners to gain a quick glimpse at the underlying movement of the piece, like a visual slow-motion effect, before the music is released and snaps back to its its original tempo. Motifs are played backwards and forwards, melodies are inverted, and instruments interrupt each other at different speeds, creating a consonant piece that will delight and suprise.

Instrumentation: pic, fl, ob, Bb clar, bass clar, bsn - 2 hn - 2 C trp - 2 perc (glock; SD) - piano - strings
