Additional Information

This is a very early piece of mine (1999): a kind of minimal / spectral workout for piano and droning analogue synth.

I like the way it unfolds and the rather monolithic drama of the piece, so I've prepared a revised version of the score (2015).

At the time, I was very interested in music that had an 'illusory' quality: a hidden, or ambiguous aspect to its sound and materials - other pieces I wrote around 1999/2000 had titles like Subterfuge and Camouflage (both very much pending revision).

Here, the tension arises from the similarly of the pure waveforms to the resonances of the piano, and the synth's filter sweep against piano's 'fake' spectra.
