Additional Information

Nollaig (Scottish Gaelic for 'Christmas') is a setting of three Celtic Christmas carols for children's chorus and symphony orchestra. It was commissioned by the Virginia Children's Chorus with the Virginia Symphony and premiered in December 1998 at the Hampton Colliseum in Hampton, Virginia. The third carol is in Scottish Gaelic. The work can be performed with or without the addition of a Celtic folk band (requested in original commission) and an Irish (requested in original commission) or Scottish dancer.

A chamber instrumental version of the work was created, with Barker's permission, by renowned American choral director, Dr. Betty Bertaux (founder and director of The Children's Chorus of Maryland). This chamber version is published on Bertaux's choral series with Boosey & Hawkes. The full orchestral version is published by McKenna-Keddie, and can be accessed via the composer's website: http://www.jennifermargaretbarker.com
