Biography

Anastasios Savvopoulos (b.1980) is an spnm shortlisted composer and a guitarist. He was born in the rural region of Orestiada in Northern Greece. In 1999 he moved to London to study at Thames Valley University in jazz improvisation, but became increasingly interested in 20th-century European art music and transfered to Middlesex University where we was able to combine jazz improvisation with composition. In 2004 he graduated from the BMus in jazz performance with a first class honours, and 2006 from the MMus in composition. He has also attended Stockhausen's course at Kurten, Germany Kurten in July 2006, a 9 day event with seminars and concerts on the his acoustic and electronic music. He has written two works for clarinet quintet, one for string quartet and one piece, KU, for wind orchestra. He is currently writing a work for piano and orchestra. Anastasios used to perform in London as a guitarist/improviser with the band Led Bib, winners of the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award.
